The Hologic Selenia Dimensions system is the most widely installed digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) platform in the United States, deployed in over 60% of certified mammography facilities. Introduced in 2011 as the first FDA-approved 3D mammography system, the Dimensions platform set the standard for combined 2D/3D breast imaging and continues to be the workhorse of screening mammography programs nationwide.

The system architecture centers on a rotating C-arm gantry that positions a Varex M113-T X-ray tube above an amorphous selenium flat-panel detector. During a tomosynthesis acquisition, the tube sweeps through a 15-degree arc, capturing multiple low-dose projections that are reconstructed into a 3D image volume. This design requires exceptional mechanical precision — the compression system, gantry motors, and detector must all perform within tight tolerances across thousands of daily cycles.
