The Hologic Affirm is an upright breast biopsy guidance system that attaches to the Selenia Dimensions or 3Dimensions gantry to enable stereotactic and tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsy procedures. The system provides sub-millimeter needle positioning accuracy for targeting suspicious lesions identified during screening mammography.

The Affirm system consists of two primary modules: the Biopsy Control Module (BCM), which provides the operator interface and motor controls, and the Biopsy Guidance Module (BGM), which holds the needle guide and positions the biopsy device along the X, Y, and Z axes. The BCM includes an articulating arm with a display unit, while the BGM contains precision motors for X-Y positioning and manual Z-axis control. An optional Lateral Arm accessory enables lateral needle approach procedures for thinly compressed breasts.

Because biopsy procedures require absolute precision, every Affirm component must function within tight mechanical tolerances.
